Westland Water District
Founded in 1952, the Westlands Water District supplies water to landowners and water users and provides drainage services. It encompasses more than 600,000 acres of farmland in western Fresno and Kings counties in California and serves over 600 family-owned farms. The district receives water from the Central Valley Project, which stores water in large reservoirs in Northern California. The Westlands Water District maintains nearly 1,034 miles of underground pipeline and more than 3,300 water meters. The district is also involved in land acquisition processes to address chronic water shortage and drainage issues. Its farmers produce over 60 commercial food and fiber crops for the fresh, dry, canned and frozen food markets. The Westlands Water District organizes educational activities to increase the awareness of water issues.
