Our adventure on Christmas Eve to the Black Forest was more like a visit to a castle in Transylvania. Our greeter If you can call him that was an old man with a black eye that resembled Igor in the Frankenstein movies who directed us very wearily to our table. "Walk This Way!"

Next an old lady who was probably his wife gave us our menus. Unfriendly also, she reminded us of the nasty woman in those old castle movies. Our server who spoke with a broken accent we could hardly understand may have been their son who lived in the dungeon. He was no gem either and seemed to have no patience for us.

Now to the food.. Our sons who are vegetarians had only one choice, a vegetable platter. Well, some of the vegetables had to be right out of a can and the rest were either steamed or cooked so much they tasted soggy or way overcooked. My wife ordered veal which was thin and also overcooked. All you could taste was the crust or breading. Her salad with uneatable cherry tomatoes could have been taken from a bag from Walmarts* that sat too long. I ordered their homemade bratwurst blend. It had very little taste and no spicy flavoring. Even the store brand at Kroger's grocery store is better than that.
The meals weren't cheap either. Needless to say, it was a very disappointing evening in the wonderful Colorado mountains. I bet could have eaten better at Frankenstein's Castle.
Maybe someone will take notice and tell those folks how unwelcome the place is.

Unbelievably bad.!! Drove up ...

Unbelievably bad.!! Drove up after a great week in Boulder meeting with clients and eating in Boulder's best establishments. I am German although living all over the US most of my life. Service--, non existent. Salad was less than Denny's quality. Schnitzel was worst I've had and came plain by itself, no egg, lox - nothing. I was scared to try it as it looked like it may have been bad meat.. I cut a slice, smelled it and then tried it. We were really hungry after the drive.and I managed to eat about 1/2 before I could take no more. My wife Salisbury steak with the same results. She as a Sous Chef believed it frozen and not fresh as advertised.. Disgusted and after waiting 15 min's for our waiter, I went searching for him. He was at a table with the owner (I believe) and a couple of others playing a game. Asking for the bill, he looked up and nodded.. When it finally came, I paid in cash, not wanting to wait another hour to put it on my biz card, no tip of course which I never do and walked out. Went to the local gas station getting some candy and other crap so we could make it back to Boulder. It just doesn't get worse.

Delectable food with outstanding service4

I found this Nederland restaurant on coloradotown.com and it looked wonderful! The experience of being in this restaurant is dreamy from the splendid martini's and appetizers to the delectable elk steak, trout and filet that simply melted in your mouth. The service was outstanding the four of us in our party did not want for anything.

Fun and cheer await you

We love to visit this restaurant "at the top of the hill" above Boulder... it's a beautiful drive up, and a wonderful place to arrive at.######A full menu, expertly done, with all the German staples and wild game often on the menu, the restaurant is cheery and the large bar is a lot of fun too.######Everyone here treats you right, and the whole experience is well worth the trip up the mountain!
