Established in 1875, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station is involved in the development, advancement and dissemination of scientific knowledge. It has expertise in improving agricultural productivity and environmental quality, protecting plants and enhancing human health and well-being. The department investigates insects and ticks that spread disease organisms. It operates through plant pathology and ecology, forestry and horticulture, soil and water, analytical chemistry and biochemistry departments. Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station offers soil testing, mosquito surveillance and tick control solutions. The department s programs include major initiatives on reducing pesticide use, controlling invasive plants in lakes and ponds, growing crops for biodiesel fuel and food safety issues. It also maintains entomology department that conducts research on arthropod pests of food crops, ornamental and fruit trees, shrubs and forests.
