Freret Hardware
5109 Freret Street, New Orleans, LA 70115
The original white octagon-shaped tile is still present, adding old-time charm to the shopping experience. Fred, Sr., operated the store until the mid-1980s, running full page ads in the Times-Picayuneunheard of at the time for a small local business. The ads featured Dupont Lucite paint, ladders, window guards, and roller skates! He retired in the early 1980s. His son Rick, the current owner, has maintained it as an old-style and family-run hardware carrying hard-to-find items and offering expert customer service no longer found in most retail stores.

Provided by YP.comMr. Jung, founder of the hardware store, was never too busy to stop and give a hand to the neighborhood kids with skates and bikes. He always had parts on hand for us even though there was not much profit in it for Freret Hardware.
That was in the 1930's. When I was grown and married , I lived around the corner on LaSalle. The family store never changed ...the customer is treated in a manner that makes them special. Drop in, you'll see what I mean.
