My experience with this business consists of two telephone calls after they unclogged two bathtub drains for an elderly lady with whom I am friends. Rooter 9-1-1 Plumbing Repair & Drain Service deserves credit for answering their telephone, quoting their price over the telephone, arriving to do the job, successfully and quickly unclogging the drains, and providing a somewhat legible invoice. The customer is not savvy with money and business matters. When she told me she paid $345 I suspected / knew she was overcharged. I called the company and spoke to Mike, who stated their service cost $149 or $159 (I forget which) per drain, and that extra was charged because someone previously poured Liquid Fire into the drain(s) and therefore their auger needed to be replaced. Mike further stated, in reply to my claim that they were too expensive, that the charge was disclosed in advance (it was) and that plumbers do not charge by the hour. Then I called four local plumbing companies, all of whom I have patronized, to get quotes for the work done. Three of them, Reliable Plumbing ($145), Attaboy Plumbing ($165), and Central Plumbing ($165.90 to $180), contradicting Mike, quote by the hour. The other, Rooterman Plumbing, quoted $159 for the first drain and $69 for the second. All of them would have been considerably less expensive than Rooter 9-1-1 Plumbing Repair & Drain Service. When confronted with this information, Mike stated that $75 would be refunded to the customer, although he was not obligated to do so. I asked how the payment would be issued. He stated that it would be mailed or hand delivered. Weeks later, neither has happened.
