Me and my two friends had a great experience here. We all had ear piercings done by Eli, all in cartilage areas. Tragus, double forward helix, and regular cartilage. Eli was very professional and super nice. Very clean place as well, would definitely recommend!

I came here on a whim one day to get my nose pierced with a few friends. I chose this place because it seemed a lot less shady than the other place in New Paltz (I'm drawing a blank on the name.) Anyway, I go in and I was pretty pleased with the cleanliness and general atmosphere of the whole shop. Any good feelings I had about the shop were diminished by the man who was to pierced my nose (not the guy with the gray hair, and not the guy with the really big gauges.) He was so unfriendly and just not all that nice. I was trying to keep myself calm because I tend to be afraid of needles. He made me feel completely uncomfortable when he said that the logic I was trying to make didn't make any sense. After he started the process, he was really aggressive and heavy on the hand. He tugged really hard on my nose and brought me a lot of physical discomfort. I didn't tip him for this reason.

A few days after the piercing, the little ball fell out. I went back to get it put back on and he was so . . . unhappy. He was even more aggressive and was tugging roughly on my nose. I thanked him, he said nothing to me, and I left. Just tonight, I had to take the piecing out because, after getting the ball put back in, it got so infected that I was afraid I would have to go to the doctor.

So, I would definitely not recommend this place. Until this guy changes his attitude and learns to be gentle, I won't be coming back to Art In Soul any time soon (I'm never going back.)

Botched tattoo

I came to this place , to get my second tattoo, based off of two recommendations . The shop itself was clean , and they followed necessary procedures, such as photocopying my license etc. The tattoo artist was really friendly too. However , a few weeks after my tattoo healed I realized how badly he messed up. He did a completely sloppily job. Some of the ink seeped into my skin leaving faint lines. The shading is completely messy too. According to various websites he had given me a blow out, meaning he went too deep into my skin. Whatever you do, do not go here !!!! It is over six months later and all I can think about is finally getting this tattoo removed.

I went here with a group of four of my friends to get a rook piercing done. The studio is very, very clean and I was overall really satisfied of the sterility of the entire setup they had. The piercer sprayed the tray with disinfectant and then laid down a sheet similar to the bibs you get at the dentist, and then placed fresh cotton swabs on the sheet, along with a fresh tray of gel and bacitracin. All the things he used to pierce my ear were sterilized, and I was more than happy with this.

However, the piercer himself had kind of an attitude when I was talking to him, and when my friends were talking to him as well. He was very monotone and seemed a bit unfriendly. I didn't really appreciate this considering I was a little nervous that he would be putting a needle through my ear, but he was manageable, I guess. After the piercing, I saw a few friends walk by and told them about the cleanliness and how I was happy with it, and the piercer actually came outside to smoke a cigarette and he was talking with us, and he seemed to have lightened up a little by then. During the piercing experience though, he made me feel a little like he was judging me and my friends. If you have a tough skin and can hold your ground, I would recommend this place for piercings as it is perfectly clean, sterile and straightforward.

By far the worst tattoo and the worst experience I have ever had! Owner is very arrogant, uneducated and a poor artist. If that wasnt bad enough, the entire time i was their I had to listen to his fat whitetrash girlfriend complain about her terrible life. Gonna cost me a fortune to get this thing removed. STAY AWAY

Although i had read mediocre reviews of this place, I decided to get my first tattoo here. I wanted very simple, unembellished text in white on my wrist. Like another commenter below, the artist spent a significant of time arguing me about the color of my tattoo and which way it should face on my wrist. i felt like he was insulting me about the decisions i made in how to decorate MY body. I have gotten more tattoos elsewhere since, and have never been treated so poorly since. True artists offer stylistic advice but without making the customer feel stupid or imposing unwanted advice.

Since then, i have asked the artist to touch up my tattoo twice. The first time, they obliged, but the second time I was again insulted. Although most of the tattoo looks wonderful, three of the letters are more faint than the rest, resulting in an uneven looking tattoo. I asked him to fix this, and he told me it was my fault I didn't like how it looked because I got it in white. Then, he told me i would have to have it touched up every year because of my bad decision. When i explained that i am totally satisfied with how it looks after 2 coats of ink (minus the three fainter letters), he told me he guessed he'd fix it "if I really wanted," but he'd have to charge me because "this is a business." All I know is I want to support a business that takes pride in its work and does not let a customer go unsatisfied, not one that sees each person who enters as a cash cow. I feel like i should also mention that while the tattoo is only 1 square inch, the artist charged me $80, which is $20 over the store minimum. i have never paid as much for any other tattoo, despite this white one being the smallest of them all.

Don't go here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got my belly button pierced there. The guy hand pierced, and it looks absolutely amazing. I am squeamish when it comes to needles and he told me to close my eyes and talked to me the entire time. I didn't even know he had pierced it until he slid the jewelry through. Absolutely amazing.

Have gotten two tattoos there so far

I went there last year for my first tattoo. The guy that did my tattoo was great. The environment was very clear. This was a big concern for me and I was pleased to see this. Hans did a great job on an original drawing of a superman symbol. The second tattoo I got there was great too and he even gave me a very good price. Ignore the negative reviews. Just go in and ask for Hans.
