Went there and loved it. Food ...

Went there and loved it. Food was great, nice atmostphere and all the waitress wait on you, not just one. This way you are not left waiting. It was great. We were waited on immediately and served within 10 minutes. It was my Moms 80th birthday so they gave her Mango with sticky sweet rice for dessert for free. It was so good. The cook learned to cook in Bangkok and has been cooking for 20 years making Thai food. All the waitress had great personality and were very frinedly and I am a very picky person when it comes to this. So go, relax and enjoy Thai food. Mom got Pad Thai with shrimp and loved it. We had Calimari fried and summer rolls with peanut sauce. Great Great peanut sauce. Hope I have helped you decide. I truly mean what I say when I blog about a restaurant. Thanis

Baffled by angry server

I went to Thai Mango for lunch with 4 of my friends yesterday. Our first server ( a younger woman) took our appetizer order, and was very friendly & sweet.

However, we were soon approached by an older woman, who attempted to take our order, and when we told her that the other girl had already done so, she said "she's my cousin so I guess she can do whatever she wants." Throughout the meal we had both of these servers visiting our table.

As soon as we sat down, we told the younger girl that we would also need 2 take-out orders to take with us after we finished eating, and she said she would simply hold off on ordering them just yet.

When the food arrived, the wrong entree was brought to me, and both waitresses came to the table and argued with me about what I actually ordered. Finally, they took the plate back to the kitchen and I waited while they cooked my original order. When the older server brought my food back, she then looked at my friend (who had also not yet received her food) and asked "and what did YOU order?" My friend told her, and she went to put the order in.

Throughout our time at Thai Mango, even though the service was terrible, my friends & I were in good spirits, and were laughing and joking about how the menu forces you to order by numbers & letters, and how we had now been there for almost 2 hours, because we were basically eating 1 person at a time.

At one point the server came to our table and told us that we had "bad energy" radiating from our group, and when my friend ordered another order of spring rolls, she came back 10 minutes later & said "now that we're "on a good note" did you really want to order that or were you just joking?" It was baffling!

At the end of the meal, she dropped the check (with an extra beer on it, and also an 18% gratuity added when we only had 5 people). We mentioned that we had ordered to-go food from the younger girl at the start of the meal, and her response was "the OTHER GIRL is my cousin, her name is _____, and the cooks are GONE." and then she simply walked away.

Since it seemed like everything that we said to this server was taken as a personal attack, my friend tried to smooth things over, and went up to pay the bill, and apologize if we had accidentally offended anyone. Her response was that they were "buddhists, and calm people."

Honestly, I'm not really sure what the problem was at Thai Mango yesterday- were they just angry that we were laughing & having fun? Is that not acceptable?

I will never go back there, and I do not recommend it to anyone who likes to have a good conversation with their friends.

Well it was good Mexican Food

El Palenque was sold to new owners and it is now a Thai restaurant. If you are looking for great Mexican food in NSB, try Mi Mexico on the beachside.

El Palenque is now Thai Mango

El Palenque was sold and the new owners turned it into a Thai restaurant. It is now called Thai Mango, and they just opened this week. We went with a group of family and friends to try out the new place and found it to be excellent. The food was a bit slow to arrive at our table but they have only been open a couple of days, so we excused that. The server was very attentive and apologized for the delay. I had the #33 - Pad Kee Mow, with beef. It was spicy and delicious. We will come back and try another Thai dish as everyone in our party of 8 enjoyed their food thouroughly.
