I had a very nice first experience at this Benihana location thanks to our chef, Devin. He was courteous, entertaining, and, most all, very professional. There was an obnoxious group at our table giving Devin a very hard time and through it all, he kept it together. He continued to focus on the task of giving great service, and thanks to him and the wait staff, we all had a delcious dinner and great experience.

this restaurant is so dirty, rude and horrible. i love benihana but i swear all my experiences at this location have always been a disaster!! the chef doesn't cook the food right, the sushi bar gets it wrong and does not even want to correct anything.. i hate this location and very slow service always!

I made reservation for Benihana through Open Table, which is usually very efficient. Although we arrived very punctual to the restaurant, the attendants said that we should wait 20 minutes. So what for are the reservations? When we finally got a table, that was a communal table with other people. Maybe some people like community meals. That was not our case. My family and myself wanted privacy to talk about the holiday we were having in NYC.

Disgusted, we asked for the manager but the employee refused to to call him. They were very coarse.

The restaurant, for us, was a fraud, starting with the lack of respect for the reservation system. We didn'y accept the table and left Benihana. In the same 56th. St. we found a great steakhouse. It was more expensive but there was not discourtesies.

Be aware with Benihana. And don't be trust in the reservations system.

Benihana is our family favorit...

Benihana is our family favorite! We've gone to this restaurant for my children's birthday every single year for the past 6 years! Even when my daughter turned 10 she wanted her dinner at Benihana. The food is definitely secondary to the experience. My kids love watching the food cooked on the stove at the table. They get a kick out of watching the chefs play around with the food. Whether it's creating a beating heart out of the brown rice or watching the onion colcanoes spew smoke, these tricks never seem to get old. Thank god they recently renovated the midtown Manhattan location. It was a bit dingy and dirty prior but, now feels more spacious and clean. Be prepared to overeat and to smell like the food for the next few days. While the menu is extremely basic (chicken, meat, rice, shrimp, veggies) and you might gasp at the amount of lard/butter used for cooking, you'll have a very memorable night out. This is a family-friendly establishment that's often crowded with birthday parties so make reservations at least one month ahead.
