The Original Benito One opened it's doors in 1968. Because of the reputation of Chef Benito it became an instant hit in Little Italy. It started out with only 5 tables in a tiny store front. It hasen't changed much over the years. The new owners are 2 brothers (Nick and James Bari) who have been in the restaurant business for over 40 years. Born and raised on Mulberry Street and now the proud owners of Benito. Out of respect of Chef Benito they kept the name and pretty much the same menu. The chef that is there has been working in Benito for over 29 years. Nick and James have kept the same cozy and family oriented look of the restaurant. All the pictures on the walls are of thier family, parents, grand parents and great grand parents. They will maintain the look and taste of the original Benito as long as they are there. Nick and James invite you to come and take a look and hopefully become a member of the Benito family. The Original Benito One opened it's doors in 1968. Excellent place in Little Italy!

We ate here with a party of 10. We arrived 30 minutes early and they were ready to seat us. Sat outside and enjoyed the scene as Mulberry is closed to cars on Friday night during the summer.

The food was amazing. I had the lasagna. The best I've ever had. Everyone at our table said the same for their dish. I have two kids that are gluten-free. They offer gluten-free pasta which the two kids devoured. Wine menu very reasonable ($25-30/bottle).

Staff was great. Wait staff friendly. After some confusion about doggy bagging one of our plates, the owner insisted on making a brand new dish for us to take.

Highly recommend to everyone.

Last weekend (memorial day) we went to Benito One on mulberry street in little italy and saw a BIG rodent in the dining room after we were served our food. Needless to say we did not eat our meal and would NEVER go back there again. How unsanitary? Who wants to eat in a place with rats?

This restaurant on mulberry st...

This restaurant on mulberry street in little italy has a nice atmosphere and decent food but is so small that our whole experience was TOTALLY WASTED and made VERY UNPLEASANT and TENSION FILLED by the abuse we watched the man behind the counter (manager or owner I guess) dole out to what limited staff there was in the first place. It was impossible to enjoy our meal as we were disgusted by the language, condescension, and downright disrespect we constantly heard this man spew throughout our time there. I will never go there again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Outstanding!

This is a family owned and run restaurant which serves outstanding dishes of which all are freshly made (including the pasta). They are extremely friendly and accommodating. Wonderful atmosphere. You will not leave her without planning your next visit back!
