The Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection is a part of the Economic Justice Division, which is governed by the Office of the Attorney General. The bureau prosecutes businesses and individuals engaged in fraudulent, misleading, deceptive and illegal trade practices. It mediates complaints from individual consumers annually. The bureau conducts studies and writes reports on emerging consumer problems and issues. The Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection also drafts legislation. The division manages antitrust, real estate finance and Internet bureaus. Its investor protection bureau protects the public from fraud by requiring brokers, dealers and investment advisers to register with the office.
