Prior to forming Cotter & Kavanaugh, Chris was the lead audit and consulting partner at Rubin & Katz LLP (since absorbed by Weiser LLP), where he was responsible for the successful completion of over 175 annual audits and cost certifications. As consulting partner at Rubin & Katz, Chris built a practice that advised leading national developers on over $3 billion in real estate transactions.Chris is currently a member of NYSSCPA, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NARIET), the New York State Association for Affordable Housing (NYSAFAH), The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), and the New York Association of Builders and Owners (ABO). Mark's areas of focus include planning, research and compliance with respect to partnership allocations, low-income housing tax credits, historic rehabilitation tax credits, long-term construction contracts, IRC 1031 like-kind exchanges, cancellation of indebtedness, and taxation of high-net-worth individuals. In addition, Mark has extensive experience in successfully representing clients through IRS tax examinations, as well as those of various state and local taxing authorities.
