Veterans who receive tailored and consistent mental health treatment enjoy improvement in their emotional well-being, better sleep, better home and work relationships, and a reduction of harmful behaviors including excessive substance use. Veterans needing help are identified through direct veteran-to-veteran outreach, and THROUGH self-referral by means of ads in social media and the projects website, www.getheadstrong.org. Veterans are also referred through our partnerships with Veteran Service Organizations in the NYC metropolitan area. Veterans are screened and assessed before the veteran and clinician work together to craft a course of treatment tailored to the individual veterans needs This can include phases of treatment such as stabilization, traumatic memory processing, substance use treatment, family treatment, and re- integration including work readiness and socialization.
