Michael Feuerstein, MD, is a urologic oncologist and the director of quality at Lenox Hill Hospital’s Department of Urology. His specialties include minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery for prostate, bladder and kidney cancers, including single-port surgery. He also performs bladder reconstruction for urinary diversion, or the rerouting of urine from the body. “I went into medicine because I knew I wanted to help people,” Dr. Feuerstein says. He completed a residency in general surgery and urology at Albany Medical College and a two-year fellowship in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Feuerstein joined Northwell Health in 2014. He works alongside fellow cancer specialists to create personalized treatment plans that utilize the latest state-of-the-art care. He is also active in clinical trials, and his research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. In addition, Dr. Feuerstein deeply values medical education. He is the urology residency program director at Lenox Hill Hospital, an assistant professor at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and an instructor at Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. He’s also broadening his own training by pursuing a master’s in public health at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology and the American Urological Association. For Dr. Feuerstein, the best part of his work is the opportunity to develop fulfilling partnerships with patients as they navigate treatment. “In addition to providing them with the most advanced care possible, I really enjoy the personal connection that I have with patients,” he says.
