We started walking a few blocks further so we wouldn't have to deal with the Duane Reade on 89th and Columbus, which is just mind-bogglingly dreadful in terms of customer service. Now after using the one on 90th Street for awhile, I'm pretty much done with Duane Reade entirely. My showing up at 4:25 on a Sunday when the pharmacy hours end at 4:30 is not the store's fault. Fine. What is a problem is how I was treated by them when I asked how the pharmacy could be completely locked and dark five minutes early. They weren't even in the process of closing up shop while still taking last-minute stragglers. When I pointed out the time difference, the manager who was standing there just said "he left" and went back to playing with the coins in the register. I asked if he thought it was a problem that the posted hours said 4:30, but the whole pharmacy staff had obviously cleared out some time ago. No response. Another question only resulted in a sheepish smile while he continued to silently stare into the register and move coins around. I think he was smiling because he knows what every person who works at Duane Reades throughout the City knows -- there's no point in caring about what their customers think. They've virtually got a monopoly, and as long as people continue to shop there and endure their sh*tty service without complaining, there's no reason for them to bother changing. Furthermore, it won't make a bit of difference to them (although it certainly will make a difference to me) if I switch over to the CVS in our neighborhood, unless you all do it as well.
