Ian R. Drexler, MD, MBA is a radiologist specializing in cardiothoracic imaging. He is Assistant Professor of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending Radiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.Dr. Drexler graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Economics from Columbia University, Columbia College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to earn his M.D. from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School, where he graduated with Dean’s Honors.Following a yearlong internship in internal medicine at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center-University Hospital of the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Drexler completed his residency training at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. After his residency, Dr. Drexler completed his fellowship training in cardiothoracic imaging at Weill Cornell Medical College. He then stayed on as faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College starting in April 2017. During his residency, Dr. Drexler was actively involved in departmental and hospital quality and patient safety initiatives. Dr. Drexler served for two years as Chair of the Housestaff Quality Council and Resident Quality & Patient Safety Officer. For his leadership, he was awarded the Weill Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council’s Housestaff of the Year award in 2014 and again in 2015. During his fourth year of residency, Dr. Drexler spent four months working within the hospital’s Division of Quality and Patient Safety. For his efforts in improving hospital quality and patient safety, he was awarded the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Employee CARE award in 2016.Dr. Drexler’s clinical expertise is in cardiothoracic imaging. He interprets a variety of imaging studies including radiographs, CTs, and MRIs of the chest as well as CTs and MRIs of the heart. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, and American College of Radiology.Dr. Drexler’s research interests are in cardiothoracic imaging, quality improvement, and patient safety. In addition, Dr. Drexler is active in the education of residents and medical students.
