John R. Lee, M.D., MS

Dr. John Richard Lee is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and an Assistant Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. His education include an AB from Harvard College, an MD from Weill Cornell Medical College, and an MS in Clinical Investigation from Weill Cornell Graduate Scholl of Medical Sciences. His clinical training was completed at NewYork-Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Lee is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
Dr. Lee is a physician-scientist with expertise in translational microbiome research studies. He has pioneered work in establishing the relationship between the gut microbiota and post-transplant diarrhea as well as the relationship between the gut microbiota and urinary tract infections. He currently has two NIH grants, a K23 career development award and an R21 exploratory/development research grant. In addition he was awarded the 2017 National Kidney Foundation Young Investigator Research grant. With these three grants, he is investigating the relationship between the gut microbiota and complications in kidney transplant recipients, the relationship between the urine microbiota and urinary tract infections, and the relationship between the peritoneal fluid microbiome and peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis patients.
