Dr. Neil Dunleavy graduated with honors from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, before earning his Doctor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Columbia University’s St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, receiving the Department Research Award for his work on cartilage engineering performed at The Columbia University Department of Biomedical Engineering. He completed fellowship training in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he trained in the most advanced, minimally invasive techniques for surgery of the hip, shoulder and knee. Dr. Dunleavy specializes in orthopaedic sports medicine, hip arthroscopy, advanced arthroscopic hip labrum repairs, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), endoscopic hip bursectomy, “all-inside” arthroscopy-assisted ACL reconstruction, meniscus preservation, cartilage preservation and reconstruction techniques, microfracture, osteochondral autograft and allograft transfer in the knee, shoulder impingement, arthroscopic biceps tenodesis, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic shoulder labrum repair (SLAP Tears), tendinopathy, fracture care, and general orthopaedic surgery. He uses musculoskeletal ultrasound for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, and prefers using the ultrasound to guide most injections of the hip. While at the University of Chicago, Dr. Dunleavy assisted and trained under the team physicians for the NFL Chicago Bears. He also served as a team physician for the MLS Chicago Fire soccer team, University of Chicago sports teams, and local high school football teams.
