I have used these guys for years and they always give me great service. Smog and tire service are both very good, fast and cheap. I started going to them because I lived in Newark, right down the street but have since moved to Hayward, but still drive down to Phan's shop for all my smog.

The first time I went to Phan's Smog Station (About two years ago) it was great... second time was absolutely horrible.



First of all... I was not told that the price had gone up significantly. Secondly... they told me that my car failed due to some sensors not being ready. I was told to drive around a few days and come back for a re-test (another $20 for the re-test). Don't most smog places do a second re-test for free?



Anyways, I did as they told and went out of my way to come back there a second time after a few days only to be told that another sensor is "Pending" and will cause me to fail the smog test. So I went to another smog place in Milpitas to fix this "Pending" sensor and was told that it would not affect the results of my smog test. Lo and behold I get my car tested there (Only $40 at the Milpitas place by the way) and my car passes.



So basically I was scammed out of the first smog test fee that I had got done at Phan's, wasted time making two pointless trips out of the way to the shop, and stressed out over nothing.



By the way I did try to call Phan's Smog and explain the situation and was told NO REFUNDS. It's a no-brainer that I'll never be doing business here again and highly suggest going to a different Smog Check Station to avoid the chances of an awful experience like the one I had.

I simply HAD to write today about Phan's Smog Station. I mean, I have been getting my cars smog checked here for several years, following my Dad's recommendation (he has been going here for many, many years), and I've always been very happy with the friendly, quick service and low prices.



Today, my mind was not on smog, but on tire repair. One of my car tires went flat sometime over the weekend while parked at home. I didn't notice until Saturday night. Sunday morning (today) I began calling Tire Centers, Auto Shops, every listing I could find within 30 miles, asking if someone could repair a tire today. I discovered two things: 1 - 80% of them are closed on Sunday, and 2 - the ones that are open are "Booked solid all day."



Then I thought about Mr. Phan's, and gave them a call. To my delight, he said that, sure I could bring it in, no problem, he would take a look at it, and they're open till 5:00. At 3:30, I drove up and gave them my tire. By 3:45 the tire was in good repair and back on my car! Ready to go! Won't have to take time off work in the morning! I asked what the bill was...



"Oh, five bucks will cover it... pretty easy fix."



This is the kind of extraordinary service that one finds only rarely! I will continue to direct anyone I can to Phan's Smog Station!
