Dr. Ramy Yaacoub is a UCI Health urologist who specializes in the medical and surgical management of kidney stone disease, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, ureteric cancer, upper tract urothelial cancer and prostate cancer. He is skilled in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery for benign and malignant urologic conditions, as well as Rezūm therapy, a minimally invasive water vapor treatment for prostate enlargement. Yaacoub completed his urologic residency training at Mansoura University, Egypt, followed by a fellowship in urologic oncology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He also completed a fellowship in endourology, metabolic stone disease, laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. His research focus is on cancers of the bladder, kidney and upper urothelial tract, as well as kidney stones. His translational research has helped lead to the discovery of prognostic biomarkers for bladder and kidney cancer. His clinical research has led to development of prognostic tools to help urologists in treatment decision-making as well as in guiding the design of future clinical trials. Yaacoub, who has a special interest in bladder cancers, has published more than 70 papers in various scientific journals and contributed numerous book chapters. He is an expert reviewer for more than a dozen national and international scientific journals. He has been a guest speaker at multiple U.S. universities and at national and international urologic conferences and meetings. He has contributed his expertise to the Bladder Cancer Think Tank and Advocacy Network. A dedicated mentor to medical students, residents and fellows, he also teaches urology courses sponsored by the American Urology Association.
