It was Circa the year 2000, the summer before my senior year of H.S. some friends and I had a wild idea for a little road trip. The trip would find us in Newport surrounded by police, Just 17 I assumed juvenile hall was in my future, then I learned about Measure 11, my fate was sealed it would seem at 70 months, in a hail mary play my attorney stepped down from the case and Kathryn Benfield was appointed.

This all came flooding back to me as I was cleaning out my mothers garage recently, I found a box of old legal paperwork, in that paperwork were a handful of hand written notes, from Ms. Benfield, jquick updates, letting me know what was new and when she would be in to see me, always ending with words of encouragement, Kathryn was compassionate and relentless, realistic but determined, she fought until we won, I went home. Today I have a strong, supportive, wife and three amazing kids, I have a career, I have hope. I have these because I had a fierce advocate, and a dear friend.
