Newport Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism services communities in New Port in Rhode Island through its various divisions, including public beaches, harbor management, recreation and sports, grounds maintenance, urban forestry, and tourism and film promotion. The department oversees more than 35 public parks, a half-mile ocean beach, recreation center, baseball fields, sports complexes and a skating park. It offers a wide variety of seasonal activities, concerts, youth programs, leagues and special events for adults, youth and families, such as indoor soccer, basketball and vacation camps. Additionally, it offers the Adopt-A-Spot program that allows various groups and organizations to oversee various city-owned properties, such as roadsides, medians, parks and beaches.
