Their battery quality and warranty policy left me out in the cold.

On Sept 20, 2010 I found my car battery dead and called AAA to save the day. I wound up purchasing a replacement battery for $110.25 (battery plus tax and any incidentals).

Just under 14 months later, on 11/16/11, I returned to my car to find it dead. I called AAA for service and did not think the battery could be the issue since it was relatively new (the battery delivered with the car purchase lasted over 5 years which is typical of past experiences with batteries). I arranged for a tow to a local shop. The shop quickly determined that the battery was dead. I opted to have the shop replace the battery at a cost of approx $125. I did this as I had no more time to spare (approx 1 hour and 45 minutes had passed between placing the service call and having the car dropped at the local shop). During conversation with the shop owner I expressed surprise that the battery had failed so soon and he advised me that all AAA batteries are 'blemishes' (other manufacturers rejects).

I called AAA and was quickly advised that the warranty was voided as soon as the battery was disconnected. I followed up with a letter advising them that the battery failed after 14 months and that I had run myself out of time and had to replace the battery. Long story short, AAA wound up hiding behind their warranty stipulation and would not refund (in whole or part) any of the purchase price of their battery.

Do yourself a favor, let them tow you to a shop and buy a quality battery. I can only wonder when I'd be left on the side of the road again had I replaced their battery with another one of their batteries.
