Prior to his arrival at CHKD in 2018, Dr. Duke served as a pediatric surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. His main duty station was Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He is a combat veteran, having been deployed twice to Afghanistan and once to East Africa, where he provided battlefield trauma surgical care and far-forward immediate life-saving damage control surgery. He continues to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Duke grew up in Newark, DE. After completing a degree in civil engineering, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guinea, West Africa, where he taught high school calculus in French and oversaw the construction of a primary school and a health clinic.
