I'm a student at EVMS and ...

I'm a student at EVMS and was assigned a primary care doctor at Ghent Family Medicine. I've been there three or four times. Each time, I had to wait at least 45 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment time to be seen. To get an appointment in the first place, you have to call at least 3 weeks in advance. They weren't able to fit me in for a follow up from an emergency room visit (head injury) for an entire month.
The front desk staff is unusually unprofessional - having loud personal conversations with each other / laughing / eating while patients are waiting in line to be registered. Once you get to the front desk staff, they are either inattentive or flat out incompetent (I had to spell my last name FOUR TIMES before the person typed it in correctly..and it's not a difficult last name).
Once you get to an actual doctor, it is clear they haven't looked at your chart prior to coming into the room. They tried to prescribe me medication I was allergic to (an allergy clearly listed on the chart) on one occasion and on another suggested I start taking a medication that I was already currently on. There are a lot of 4th year students and residents at Ghent Family Med. As a student, I understand that we need clinical experience and practice and all of that - but make sure someone double checks what the resident is doing should you be seen by one of them.
I had to get a routine (but very important) lab test done. After waiting 3 weeks for my appointment, I went into have the culture taken by a resident. It was apparently the first time she had done this and she messed up. The lab was unable to test the culture. No one called to tell me this for a month. So I now have to wait another month to get an appointment so they can re-do the test.
All in all, I wouldn't recommend this place. You have to wait too long for an appointment, you have to wait too long in the waiting room before being seen, the doctors are all WAY over-scheduled, and the care is sub par.

I am young and on disability the doctor I saw today never once reviewed my chart yet alone look at it but 1 time. Strike 1 as I'm telling him about a brand of medication I'm taking for diabetes and it's a tier 4 and I have to pay $155 a month. Insulting me and asking me how I know this. I told him the pharmacy my insurance and my insurance medication book. He asked me who reads you the information in the book? Strike 2: I had to have my dmv handicap plaque renewed. He asked why and I told him mine was about to expire and this health condition and how it affects my ability walking. He asked 4 times. Read my chart look at my medications look at my diagnosis. I didn't have this issue last time. Untop of his ma and the front office staff said if I bring it to my visit it's no charge and he would complete it for me while I was being seen. So now I have to go pick it up and they better not charge me. I had to tell him when my last hemoglobin a1c was and I'm past due. Because I asked for a hard copy script next time I come in I have to tell him what pharmacy he will send all my refills to. I explained to him my reasonings some medications are cheaper at one place and expensive at another. Still needed 1 pharmacy. Doesn't ask me my allergies tells me your allergic to Tylenol right. When I'm not. I had to remind him after talking to him about a having a tsh lab drawn. And ignore health concerns. I shouldn't have to repeat my medical history to someone in a office that's been treating me for 8 years every time. After today's visit I will not be returning again.

Excellent care, best of both worlds.

I took my Mom there for about 5 years after the peace dividend kicked her out of military care. I have selected them over private practice doctors for the ranges of experience, oversight, and either genuine concern for patient welfare or excellent acting. AFA previous review, I would be curious to know if he is out of medical school yet? Doctors are people not gods.
