History: Family owned and operated since 1973, Wine and Cake Hobbies began as Virginia Winemaker Supply, selling only wine and beer making equipment and ingredients (founder, Jim Eversole's hobby). Within two years, Jim's wife, AnnaBelle, joined the business and started selling supplies in cake decorating and candy making and offered classes, as well. In 1976, the store relocated and underwent several expansions, including an extensive party and bridal shop and gourmet & catering products. At present, three generations and extended family members handle the day to day operations. Classes are taught year-round in our large, full-size classroom. Learn everything from wine making to candy making! Kid's classes too! The majority of our cake decorating classes are instructed by AnnaBelle, who holds a multitude of related course certificates from all over the world. She has a Masters Certificate from the Wilton School; Figure Piping from John McNamara; Lambeth Method from Edith Gates School; Gumpaste from Josefa Barloco; Australian Method from Jerry Kern; Mary Ford School, Bournemouth, England; Chocolate Candy making from Byrnes & Kiefer and Maid of Scandinavia, and Butter Cream Course from Betty VanNorstrand. Testimonials: Our customers often say: "If you don't have it, I don't need it!"..."I have been looking everywhere for these items, and I should have come here first!"

I want to respond to the not-s...

I want to respond to the not-so-positive review posted here. Acknowledging that we're all entitled to our opinions, I honor this reviewer's right to his/hers. However, I have been a customer of Wine and Cake Hobbies for over 15 years. I know the owner and the employees personally and have never gone to their store and received anything less than stellar customer service. There has been more than one occasion when one or more of them has gone over and beyond to ensure I had the item(s) I needed for a particular project. They are wonderful people and I feel especially fortunate to be one of their customers.

With regard to Wal-Mart pricing, I don't know that I can argue that if you only need a small amount of fondant, the super store might be your best bet; however, I buy the stuff in the $108.00 buckets, always find it stocked at Wine and Cake, and haven't found this quantity online for less.

I can't imagine what was going on when you visited but I can assure you: there is no one in that store who will not jump to your aid quickly. I guess the bottom line is: no one place is going to please everyone because we are all different, have different needs and different responses when those needs are not met to our satisfaction.

I hope you will return and pull one of them aside to voice your frustration. They did not deserve the blasting you gave them (in my humble opinion) and I'm sure they would want to make this right with you.

Happy decorating!

Frustrating place

today was the last straw, have been going to this place on and off for the last 13 years, every time i got stationed up here, and since then the customer service (or lack there of) has gotten worst, the inventory they carry is not as grand and just the attitude and vibe of the place has just gotten worst over the years. i like loyalty and am a very loyal customer to those that i do buisness with, but with no customer service i am finally done and will not shop here again; the last 6 times i have been here i walk out frustrated and upset and it is just not worth it, not to mention that a lot of the items there are cheaper elsewhere such as colored fondant (cheaper at wal mart)
