The North Charleston Police Department is a law enforcement agency that maintains a staff of more than 300 sworn officers and over 100 civilian employees who serve approximately 90,000 residents. The department is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). It has a special investigations division that is responsible for follow-up investigations of incident reports, including child abuse, sex crimes, arson, domestic violence and homicide. The department also operates a uniform patrol division that provides traffic safety, crime prevention and education services. The North Charleston Police Department has been operational for more than 30 years and is located in North Charleston, S.C.
