Proudly serving Lee County since 2007, As the owner and founder of ABC 4 K9, I am a graduate of the Animal Behavior College, Trainer/Behavior Specialist for the Animal Refuge Center in North Fort Myers, Florida and Member/Trainer for SWFL Professional Dog Trainers in Naples affiliated with the Naples Humane Society. I have worked with multiple Rescues in the SWFL area to help ensure that the dogs in their care are placed in loving and safe homes. I do follow up visits for the Animal Refuge Center to ensure that minor behaviors are addressed with the new families before they become grounds for returning the dog to the shelter. These can include but are not limited to digging, jumping, nipping, house training, crate training, separation anxiety, and other fears and phobias. I work closely with the canines veterinarians to ensure that with their assistance we can achieve management of other unwanted behaviors if necessary through medication paired with behavior modification. I have been training dogs since I was 12 years old and have always enjoyed the canine to human bond that forms as the communication gap is decreased through positive interaction and training. I became a certified Trainer while volunteering at the local shelters because I thought I could Make a difference and stop some of the returns. Dogs were returned for fixable behaviors just as jumping, digging and puppy antics. I knew that there had to be a way to stop or at least reduce the return rate for fixable behaviors. I wanted to save just one dog from being separated from their forever home. That is how the slogan, "Making a difference one dog at a time." came about. I believe that dogs are very intelligent and will do what is rewarding for them. I believe the key is setting the dog up to succeed in the wanted behaviors while ignoring or extinguishing in a positive fashion the unwanted behaviors. That is where the name of my Business came from, Alternate Behavior Conditioning for a Dog, also known as ABC 4 K9. I continue to learn and grow through interaction with dogs and the people that are entrusted to care for them. A lesson that I have learned is that humans are very inconsistent and dogs do not think situational. Working through this lesson of life can make a massive impact on how you communicate with your dog. It can be life altering for both the human and the dog.
