Provided by YP.comThe oncology team at central saved my cats life. We started treatments in Sept 2018 when my vet said there was no hope. After a year on the CHOP protocol with Dr Olmsted’s expertise, I am happy to report that my 9 year old kitty is in remission and doing great! The oncology team is top notch. Thank you Dr Olmsted, Jen, and Rhonda.

Provided by YP.comI will NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Here is why: My dog had an ulcer that ruptured and a temperature of 104. Because there was no other veterinary hospital open, we had no other choice but to bring him here. We normally go to Ridge Hill (which I highly recommend). We picked him up the next morning to bring him to Ridge Hill and when we did, this hospital did not have the decency to clean up the dried mucus and blood that was all over his abdomen, legs and paws. When we brought him in the night prior, they affirmed us that they would clean him up. Since we decided to pick him up the following morning, instead of leaving him there for another day and pay an extra $1300, they did not clean him up. In fact, he looked just as delirious and uncomfortable the night we brought him in. Not only that, when we brought him in, the vet asked accusatory questions about bruising that was around his abdominal area, which was where the ulcer surfaced and bursted. I shouldn't have expected anything else because this is how medical care is. If you do not pay top dollar, you will not receive OKAY medical attention and care. Do not, unless you absolutely must, send any of your pets here. It was an awful experience and I am incredibly disappointed and angered by the treatment my dog and family received.

Provided by YP.comI don't think I've dealt with a more venal veterinary hospital and I've used quite a few in my 40 years of pet ownership. Getting paid is the first thing on these people's agenda. Your pet and you come second-even when in my case, the animal is dying. They call it "fiscal responsibility." I call it plain, old-fashioned greed. They pride themselves on the expertise of their docs as a justification for their astronomical fees but after 5 days in the hospital and 3,000 dollars, the vet still had no clue what was wrong with the cat. He went downhill and had to euthanized. I was not allowed to see him until the bill was paid and that included an additional 189.00 for putting him down and cremating him. So much for compassion. If this hospital served humans, they would be sued every day of the week. Save yourself money and heartbreak. Go elsewhere.

Provided by YPmobileEverything you read in the prior reviews has happened to me or any number of my associates that have had the misfortune of having a beloved pet take ill and the absolute only option was to go to Centra Veterinary Hospital. They only thing not mentioned is the credit application you're coerced into filling out because god forbid you didn't bring the thousands of dollars (and it will be thousands once your you're given that final bill for service due upon receipt).
Unscrupulous and a total lack of compassion for owner or pet.
Several of the folks I know that brought their best friends to Central after a car had hit them or some other terrible accident had occurred often wonder if they had made had right decision by putting their pets down, oh I didn't mention that. These savers and lovers of animals will offer you a bargain rate to put your animal down if you don't have the cash for surgery and are denied credit.
They'll even let you watch your pet close its eye for the final time for free.

Provided by YP.comI have been using this location for many years for both my cat and dog. My family and I have always received the best service by both the staff and doctors. We feel so fortunate to have such an amazing facility close by with 24 hour emergency service. I would definitely recommend them... they truly give great care and attention.

Provided by YP.comNever bring your pet there, they are cold money hungry people. The more you cry for your pet the higher the vet bill. I have never experienced such money mongrows. They feed off of your fear and love for your pet. I have lived in several states, never have I seen such dishonesty at any animal hospitol or Vet. This is just the tip of the iceburg of what I want to say. Your better off making a deal with the devil.

Provided by YP.comI wish I could say that I had nothing but good experiences here as well but unfortunetly that is far from the truth. Aside from the disgusting amount of money that they charge, their evaluation abilities are less then credible in my opinion. In the couple of times that I have had to go there due to pet emegencies each time has been a misdiagnosis or even very expensive treatment for the wrong ailment. Unfortunately in an emergency situation we don't have many options in this area and I felt I had no other choice, but after my last experience I will drive an hour and half out of the way not to go to this facility!

Provided by YP.comWe would like to respond to the concerns about our financial policies. Because we are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, our overhead costs are high. In our efforts to provide exceptional care we have a highly trained staff of veterinarians, board certified specialists and veterinary technicians. We use high quality equipment and stock medications used to treat animals with life threatening emergencies as well as antidotes for common toxicities not available at all veterinary clinics. Our in-house laboratory and x-ray service are available 24 hours a day. Because test results are received quickly our veterinarians are able to treat pets faster and more efficiently. We are sensitive to the fact that often veterinary expenses are unexpected. We rely on open dialogue with families of sick or injured pets to provide the highest standard of care based on each family’s personal means. For this reason we provide a detailed treatment plan for each patient with an estimate of the cost. Our hospital and staff members are committed to what we do best, providing quality care for your pet. We can only continue to offer the highest quality veterinary care if we manage our business in a financially responsible manner. If you have questions regarding your own pet’s care please contact us.

Provided by YP.comNew Haven needs more competition for this "facility". Whether you take your pet in for the most routine care or the biggest surgery of their lives, you will feel like you were ripped off. When you call for an "emergency" visit, they tell you about the "$95 walk in the door charge". Believe me, it only goes up from there. While your pet is in the "exam" room, in pain or some type of distress, they are bringing you "estimates" so you can pre-pay.
Why bother to make an appointment for routine care? You'll wait anyway. I had an appointment and was there for 30 minutes before they put us into a room. Where we waited some more. We saw no "emergencies" come in but we did see lots of staff sitting around and talking, socializing and eating.
It's worth the drive for a true emergency to go to Norwalk or Cheshire. Your pet will get better care and you won't have the $50 follow up visits every week.

Provided by YP.comI cannot say strongly enough: do not go to this "hospital." I am helping a good neighbor get through the emotional, medical, financial and legal disaster that Central Hospital has created. She had agreed to hip replacement surgery for her lab/setter mix; she was repeatedly told the dog was doing fine post surgery. The dog's femur shattered when she brought the dog home. The metal hip replacement was rubbing directly on bone, the wound was infected, the dog was under- or not medicated for pain. A claim is being filed with the BBB, the ASPCA, and other animal protection agencies -- please check there for details and find another vet.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We welcome the opportunity to speak directly with anyone that may have concerns about the care of their pet. All animals that have undergone orthopedic surgery at New Haven Central Hospital are sent home with pain medication. There are no exceptions. We take a team approach when it comes to the care of our patients after they have left the hospital. Pet owners are advised to call us if they have questions or concerns. The hospital is staffed 24 hours a day with veterinarians and highly trained technicians, there is never a reason to wait for veterinary care. We provide the highest standard of care, compassionately, to all animals. We take great pride in the fact that we have been delivering high quality veterinary care to animals and the people that love them for over 35 years. Pet owners are encouraged to contact us directly if they have questions regarding the individual needs of their own animal companions.
