I was referred here by a very nice doctor from when I was hospitalized following some mental health issues. I scheduled with them but I had an emergency come up. They were going to charge me 300.00 as a new patient since I didn’t give a 48 hour notice. I explained that I had an emergency situation and they were not willing to budge on the $300.00 fee. I begged the receptionist to ask the Doctor if she could waive the fee as I already am low income and couldn’t control the situation. They called me back and said they would waive the fee but I needed to find another provider. I was appalled and hurt. I have been searching for a therapist for months as I had been suicidal. Clinics either didn’t accept my insurance or weren’t taking new patients. I felt the way they handled this situation was very wrong and inconsiderate.. I decided to post my comment because sometimes exceptions should be considered. I’m glad I have move beyond being suicidal as the way I was treated would have just pushed me over the edge. I can not believe mental health clinics behave this way. I am a first time patient and essentially robbing people of funds they don’t have to make a point is absurd. I am glad they won’t be seeing me but I hope for any new patients you be aware that you can’t cancel if you have an emergency. It just adds insult to injury and no dignified mental health facility should treat their patients this way.
