Our concept is simple: Eliminate the cost of opening and owning a funeral home with chapels and pass the savings on to the public, but provide the upmost level of compassionate personal service. My family has been in the funeral profession since 1908. My great-grandfather-Sam Gratch-had to deal with a third of his business being funerals for children under 15. Tuberculosis, Small pox, Influenza (including the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918), Rubella, Diphtheria, and Measles were among the many diseases that he had to deal with. My grandparent Mollie and Arthur Mandel regularly dealt with deaths due to these as well. By the time my Uncle Gene and father Seymour came into the business, medicine had either eradicated some of these diseases or lowered the mortality rate of others significantly. I don't know how my great-grandfather and grandparents protected themselves as most of the protective equipment funeral directors and health officials now use were not available or known of back then.
