Sometimes there are people that enter our life’s journey at certain points when we least expect it. I originally went in to see Paula with my difficult teenage daughter and ended up finding a true gift for myself. She is completely non-judgmental and you feel accepted the moment you walk into her office. She has helped me experience growth that for me was unimaginable. She has formed a level of trust that allowed me to work through some dark areas of my childhood. She has helped me break down so many barriers I’ve had surrounding me and given me a fierce confidence that has allowed me to stand up for myself, speak in front of large groups of my peers, and stand firm with my children - things that have always been difficult for me. She speaks from the heart and can truly be a supporter as well as a mentor. She is helping me learn how to find the answers within myself, so that I can access them even when she’s not around. She has been a true blessing in my life and continues to inspire me every single day. I have and will continue to recommend her to anyone looking for guidance in any area of their life.

We found Paula through the Prepare/Enrich marriage counseling materials. Paula helped us work through our pre-marital counseling and be more prepared for marriage. Even though we already get along really well and mesh tightly, we still found it helpful to discuss issues we hadn't even thought of. Paula has a kind, welcoming manner. If you are looking for someone who is wonderful with children....and parents, Paula is amazing. My son looks forward to going to talk to her, and I look forward to the appointments as well. She has patience, understanding, toys for my sons busy hands, and chocolate for a nice treat at the end of the session.

Coming from a blended family, Paula has helped us work through many issues dealing with physical and emotional abuse, abandonment, alcoholism, decision-making, etc. She has been with us through a very tough court process, and she has given all of us many tools to use to get through our struggles. The kids love getting their time alone with Paula and they feel much better after having someone listen and talk through their issues.

Paula has been counseling my daughter for around seven years. As a deaf person its hard to find help for gambling addiction since GA (gamblers annymous) meetings are not interpreted meetings and no resources exist to fill the need in twin cities metro area. I found Paula J. Detjen, PLLC who knows ASL which is a huge help itself and she spent a lot of time to find me an interpreter so I could attend GA meetings. She is very good at what she does, so if YOU want to QUIT gambling see Paula J. Detjen, PLLC.
