100 Moose Krause Drive, Notre Dame, IN 46556
The Snite Museum of Art offers three floors of both changing special art exhibitions and permanent collection galleries, a sculpture park, as well as free lectures and special events. It is located on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, directly NW of the football stadium. Admission is free; all are welcome. Considered one of the finest university art museums in America, the Snite Museum's permanent collection contains over 29,000 works that represent many of the principal cultures and periods of world art history. It opened in the fall of 1980, consolidating the O'Shaughnessy Galleries and the Ivan Mestrovic Studio. The 70,000 square-foot building, designed by Ambrose Richardson, A.I.A., was a gift of the Snite family in memory of Frederick Jr., Class of 1933. Due to various campus construction projects, consult the museums' website for current visitor parking information, sniteartmuseum.nd.edu.
