The Novato Fire Protection District is an independent special fire district established by the Marin County Board of Supervisors in 1926. The Novato Fire District is located in northern Marin County, Calif. The Novato Fire Protection District, located entirely in the state of California, encompasses approximately 71 square miles and serves a population of more than 60,000 citizens. The city of Novato, Calif., lies within and is served by the District. The district is governed by an elected five-person board of directors, each of whom serve four-year terms. The Novato Fire District provides emergency and non-emergency services to the citizens of the Novato Fire Protection District and those visiting or passing through the area. The district is comprised of three divisions, all of which are administered by the fire chief.
