The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund was created in 1939 by the Illinois General Assembly. It provides a comprehensive system for the payment of retirement, disability and death benefits for the employees of local governments and school districts in Illinois. The IMRF was established under statutes adopted by the Illinois General Assembly and is governed by a board of eight trustees. It administers various plans that include the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Personnel, IMRF Regular and the Elected County Official Plan. It has a field services division that works with employers and members to assist them with IMRF-related questions. The division also conducts employee workshops, authorized agent certification programs and other informational presentations. The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund is located in Oak Brook, Ill.
