We recently got our husky fixed and he is basically just dying now. We took him back to this vet and they drugged him up and sent him home. He was so drugged we watched him fall over. He couldn't walk hardly at all. They neglected to tell us that some dogs will vomit due to the surgery. I had to look up a lot of the information myself on google. When we took him in the day after his surgery he had been vomiting for over 24 hours and was dehydrated bad. The vet told me it was something that didn't happen and maybe he is just not dealing well.....yes we knew that. He has lost a large amount of weight because he still can't hold down food after a week. I called back and all they want is more money. They are not concerned that our husky is dying. I was told that if there was any complications after surgery they would cover it but that is not the case. So as we run around trying to find a vet that will maybe know what has happened to our baby who at this point may not have a chance after just a week of being fixed, they will continue doing business as usual.

Ideal Vet Clinic is the best I have found. The care my pets have received there has been caring, professional and reasonably priced. My aunt also takes her pets to Ideal. I recommend them to anybody looking for a great pet clinic with a wonderful staff and a caring, small town feel that won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Ideal Vet clinic and Dr. Shaw are A+. I moved to DC four years ago and whenever I can I prefer to take my two cats to see him. He is caring, sincere, honest, and most of all he makes you feel informed on what is going on without making you feel dumb for not "speaking dr. lingo." When I took my girls in a few weeks ago, he did a thorough exam and noted one had lost weight. For cats this can be bad, but he gave me some options and coached me on what to look for. My mom has been taking her cats and her foster cats there for a few years and we've always been happy. Each animal and each patient is special to him and he will go out of his way to ensure you and your pet get his full attention.

Dr. Shaw and his staff have been the most caring and sincere staff to me and my pets. I recently had to put my 16 yr. old terrier to sleep and Dr. Shaw handled my loss with professionalism and sincerity. I left with my best friend, Dixie, wrapped up tight in a blanket - which gave the appearance of her sleeping. I then received a condolence card that every staff member signed and gave a personal note. They then sent me an invitation to a candle lite vigil to recognize all animals that had been lost throughout the year, with a reception with refreshments after. Then they made a donation to Morris Animal foundation in Dixie;s name.



During the visit I was allowed to hold my dog until she took her last breath and gave me ample time to collect myself before I left her.



They are top notch and I will praise them to anyone who listens!

Dr. John Shaw and the friendly/professional staff at Ideal Vet Hospital are top notch. These are a group of just good folks (no arrogance or talking above your head) who have a sincere love and commitment to bettering the life of every animal that they treat. The hospital is professionally equipted with modern updated diagnostics, without being over the top,which enables Dr. John to give each owner a clear honest assessment of their pet's health. I have found Dr. Shaw and his staff to be sincerely thankful for the opportunity to serve their clients while providing gentle/compassionate care to your pet.
