What a great location! BART station for those who use public transit, want something to eat or walk around and then visit the dentist. Tamarindo - and then straight to the dentist, was my schedule.



The office is located in an old historic building, which meant I had to go up the stairs (the elevator is a little hidden) but this was the only drawback. As I was walking to the front door, I was impressed with the decor of reception area. Old Oakland Dental doesn't scream dentist (no pun intended). Talk about blending the old charm of the building with modern chic furniture and accessories. Large windows, clean lines, music playing, hot herbal tea and apples... very inviting :).



I was here for my first time and had to fill out my medical/dental history. Like most initial visits to the dentist I had to take x-rays. Remember when you were a kid and took x-rays with those cardboard inserts that always poked the inside of your mouth? Well, no more cardboard. Everything is stored on a computer.



Their hygienist Jackie did my cleaning. She is super sweet, did a great job and only made me bleed once, just kidding. She was professional and very gentle. My previous hygienists used to make my gums bleed when they flossed because my contacts are tight, but not the case with Jackie. I hope she can always do my cleaning.



Then Dr. Michael came in, introduced himself and did a check up. An important thing is that I felt like I can trust him - he's friendly and frank about what needs treatment and what we should look out for later down the line. Good news - I get to keep my teeth till the old ripe age :)



Some things I really liked was: great location for my work Downtown, appointments at 7AM available on certain days, female staff (hee hee), a dentist I can trust AND takes my insurance, and they had refreshments available.



Great place, fantastic staff... Will be back in 6 months :)

I admit I go extra mile when it comes to maintaining decent appearance. So finding a great cosmetic dentist was pretty important. With Dr. Michael, I literally have to go a few extra miles now, because my family used to see him in San Francisco, but after he opened his practice in Oakland, I am willing to cross the bridge to see him at Old Oakland Dental. I find it comforting that treatments are well explained, and reasonable options are suggested. I appreciate it that Dr. Michael talked me out of a full set of superwhite veneers and just did 4 of my front teeth with a more natural look. Also, someone who can get my Dad to come to cleanings, must be good...
