I am so surprised by the negative comments about Stephan Goyne's Rocha Jiu JItsu on Grand Avenue that I feel certain they must be confused with another place! Stephan Goyne has been teaching my daughter for 2 years now, and I find him to have a masterful combination of patience, clarity, motivation, and skill with the kids. Stephan does not tolerate acting up, but he does it in a way that is positive and decisive. My daughter feels empowered and energized from her experience here. I also really appreciate that Stephan has 2 other helper instructors in every class, so that the kids get a lot of 1:1 attention. My only negative is that occasionally the class size is too large.

BAD Instructor

I am truly disappointed! me & my wife wanted to sign our child up for lessons and since i did a little martial arts in high school wanted to share the experience with my child so i was ready to sign up since i had wrestled as well. we walked in during a kids class their was NO Black Belt instructors around noting from the other review it was probably the same guy he was yelling at the kids, They did not look like they where having any fun! the instructor was not very pleasant and seemed to have no people skills also he seemed to be insulted that we even walked in to ask questions about the school.

I can understand if his class was busy but he had like 3 students in class. it seemed like he was just training the kids to be bullies.

against my wifes wishes i went back and from outside watched an adult class their was a different instructor but i wasn't all that impressed. I am just shocked about the attitude from this school but i guess their are con-men in the martial arts. subsequently Me and my child signed up down the street at a great school my wife is even contemplating trying their program as well, the instructors are black belts and have a great deal of knowledge about what they are doing.

lost temper

A purple belt (instructor? student?) verbally snapped @ me when i did a technique wrong, then the purple belt walked off in a fit of rage, as if personally insulted. Would not recommend to anyone.
