We usually stayed at The Sands Resort, have so for many years. But for the last two seasons, The Sands has become inhospitable and simply misleading. We had booked a smoking room and one that would accommodate our dogs. The room we booked was not the room we were given. The room was under the rickety, noisy stairs and was simply too small, no kitchenette, only a microwave under the TV. When we talked to the young man at the counter he said with indifference and a smirk, "You don't have to stay here, you could always go somewhere else". That's how we found The Weatherly. The Owner/Operator was the nicest man, very accommodating and personable. We got a one-bedroom suite with a lovely wood-burning fireplace, patio led out to a nice, large area for the dogs and an easy, quick walk to the beach. Beautiful view of the sunset. The kitchen even had a full-sized dishwasher. Very nice indeed. No drunks staggering up and down the stairs at all hours, no paper thin walls revealing the conversations of neighboring guests. A nice, peaceful setting, truly a home away from home. We come to Ocean Shores for a charity benefit every summer and at least one more time with the dogs for a family getaway. The Weatherly will be our go-to place in Ocean Shores from here on out. And for all this homey setting we actually paid a bit less than we would have at The Sands!
