When I began my search for a reputable attorney to help my friend, Ms. Smith, preserve her inheritance, AVVO recommended Bill Guice. Mr. Guice subsequently contacted us and we made an appointment to discuss the situation. After hearing the problem, Mr. Guice told us the best attorney he had to handle this problem was Maria Cobb. He told us he would discuss our situation with Ms. Cobb and have her contact us. Subsequently Ms. Cobb e mailed us with a written proposal. I, James, asked her in writing, if that would include discovering "the total assets" of Ms. Smith's mother, including the funds controlled by her brother. She replied in writing "YES". I then emailed that we would accept her offer and would be in with $2200.00 as soon as we had the money together. On July 22, 2014 Sheila met with Ms. Cobb. Within 10 minutes Ms. Cobb had our money, a check for $1300 and my credit card for $900, then commenced to change the terms of our agreement without my permission. She no longer was willing to subpoena the brother for the mother's financial records.The credit card is my credit card, James W Sumner and I never signed the card, and I only authorized it under the agreement made between Ms. Cobb and myself. When Ms. Smith returned home and I learned that the contract had been changed without my permission, I emailed Maria Cobb and told her "we do not have a deal". I have never heard from Ms. Cobb and she said she was going on vacation for one month and could do nothing until she returned. Now Ms. Cobb is deducting her unapproved charges from my money, $520.00!
