Provided by YP.comI went to Odessa for Labor Day Weekend to visit some friends, and on the way home the transmission in the car busted. We took the car to this shop at the suggestion of my friend's dad, and were made to think that we were getting a good deal on a good (although used) transmission. Adolfo told us that if we replaced the transmission with the one he had, it would give us at least 5 years more on the car. We took the deal, and after a few days we got the car back. We noticed right off that the car was shaking and making strange noise, but Adolfo told us that it was normal, that the transmission was just settling in. Needless to say, we had to call a tow truck when we were not but 5 miles down the interstate. We had the car taken back to the shop, and waited for an entire day for them to tell us that the only problem was that the plastic covering on the undercarriage had come undone, and that was what had made the noise. When we finally got back on the road (after a week), we noticed that the same noises we had complained about before were still a problem, particularly when we took the car over 60 MPH. We called the shop, and Adolfo told us to drive it hard and we would be fine, that they checked it out, and that we had bought a used transmission that could go at any moment, which is the opposite of what he told us before we handed him the cash. At that point, we trusted nothing of what he said, so I called a friend in DFW who is a certified mechanic and explained the situation. He told us the opposite: to take the car slowly and cautiously. We took his advice, and made it back to DFW in 8 hours. The next day my friend looked at the car and was shocked at how badly we had been taken in. He explained that the transmission was junk, the fluid was burnt and old, they didn't change the filter and some other parts that are generally changed when the transmission is replaced, and the obviously didn't know enough to tell us how to safely get home. If we had taken the car harder than 50, the transmission would have blown, the front wheels would have locked, and we would have crashed.
This man cheated us and nearly got us killed by his ignorance of his trade, and we are taking legal action. It's entirely likely that he takes good care of people who actually live in Odessa, but I wouldn't trust a man who has no qualms about cheating a couple of college girls who are just passing through.
