Established in 1985, the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board is a state agency governed by more than 10 members. The board administers the state's student financial aid programs and provides strategic planning, coordination, monitoring and policy analysis for higher education programs in Washington. It serves as an advocate for students and the overall higher education system. The Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board develops and recommends policies to enhance the efficiency and accountability of public higher education processes. It supports Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), which addresses low-income individuals and includes intensive tutoring, mentoring and career planning information services. In addition, the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board administers the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). The board maintains a location in Olympia, Wash.
