The Nebraska Humane Society was founded in 1875. It is the fifth oldest humane society in the nation, and, today, is also one of the largest. We offer shelter to animals who have no place to call home and provide vital services to them and to the people who love them. Every year, more than 30,000 animals, including wildlife, find their way to our doors. Through our programs, we touch the lives of more than 200,000 people annually with our message of compassion and humane treatment for all living creatures. We are housed on a 13-acre campus with four buildings, 150 dedicated staff members and 600 volunteers.

They try their best. I don't agree with everything they do but I know they try super hard to take care of the animals

The Humane Society refused to honor a sale price on dogs

On August 2, 2013, my wife and her friend noticed a banner that said "half price on dog adoptions and free cats" on the Humane Society's website. My wife, her friend, my daughter and I went to the Society to look at dogs on 8/3/13. We found a beautiful puppy. The bond was almost instantaneous. While we met with the adoption counselor and the dog, we found out that the fee was 250.00 (which is a lot of money for a mixed breed puppy!)) and that there was not a special sale. Our friend and I went to the staff to inform them of the following: our friend noticed this banner on her computer and my wife noticed the banner on her computer. A staff person told us that we were mistaken and that there was no sale. I asked to see the manager. The manager denied the sale. She told me " I am sorry that you felt that you saw the sale banner." She basically called me a liar. I was hopping mad! If anyone notices a banner on their website that promises a reduction in the adoption fees, beware! My wife daughter, friend and I wasted an entire afternoon! We had to deal with a disappointed seven-year old daughter who expected to take the dog home. We will not adopt from the Humane Society now or in the future! There are other places that have dogs for adoption. There are less expensive places with staff that honor their advertisements.

wonderful response

At 11pm, my daughter saw a bat in our apartment. We opened our patio door and and valiantly tried to show the bat the door, but it found our vaulted ceiling and stayed there. I called the Humane Society, and they sent someone out immediately. The wonderful rep was able to catch the bat in a very short amount of time. Very pleased with the very prompt service, and the rep was great. Thank you.
