Susan S. Kais, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist who earned her bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan and her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. She completed her internship and residency at The University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois and her fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Scripps Green Clinic and Hospital in La Jolla, California. Her advanced fellowship training in inflammatory bowel disease was completed at the University of Miami and The Crohn’s & Colitis Center in Miami, Florida. Dr. Kais is dual board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr Kais participates in research and numerous clinical trials focusing on ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and eosinophilic colitis.
Dr. Kais is interested in patient-focused quality of life improvement measures, patient-care advocacy, improved patient-physician communications, and IBD research. Along with her clinical practice, she incorporates patient education and outreach as often as possible. With the proper tools and guidance, she works with her patients as a team to treat the disease and helps them move through an often difficult process together with as little stress as possible. She believes in personalized and individualized care, and also feels the more knowledge a patient has about their own disease, the more informed a decision they are able to make and ultimately improve their quality of life as a whole.
