Fryers Store
210 E Market St, Orwigsburg, PA 17961
When was the last time you walked in to an old-fashioned 5 & 10-cent Store? Does the image conjure up aisles of toys, penny candies, hard-to find household gadgets, sewing items and holiday decorations? Although many 5 & 10's have gone out-of-business the tradition is alive and well in downtown Orwigsburg, PA. George W. Fryer founded the original Fryer's store in 1929 in the small rural community of Hamburg, Pennsylvania. George opened his second store in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania in 1954. Since then, the Hamburg location has closed, however the Orwigsburg store is one of the only remaining 5 & 10- cent Stores in the area. Fryer's was taken over by Joyce Frantz in 1971, daughter of George W. Fryer. Currently Joyce and her son Glenn Frantz own and manage the store. Fryer's has been holding the interests of shoppers for over 75 years with its vast collection of unique and hard-to-find items. These include many lines of collectibles such as model railroads, Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments, Department 56 collectibles, and Breyer Horses. Fryer's Store also offers a full list of retired pieces. In today's hectic world, Fryer's Store still maintains its hometown mom and pop store charm. So whether you are in the mood to reminisce or are looking for something unique and out of the ordinary, visit Fryer's and see for yourself why they have been a hometown tradition for over the past 75 years.
