Randys electric sent out an electrician to our home to install a couple of pre-existing lights and a couple of outlets. They say their pricing is "up front" but you don't find out what the project costs until the electrician gets to your home which costs you $50 right out of the gate. So the electrician arrived and produced this "pricing list." He has a look at what we want done and quotes us a price of $750 which I thought was outrageous. However my wife said to just sign it as we can't send him away now that he's here. So we signed it but I couldn't help feeling like we were getting way ripped off. So ten minutes later I told the electrician to stop and abandon the project. The guy was a little strange so I wasn't sure if how he was going to respond to this but he almost seemed used to it. However he told me he couldn't stop now that he had started and if he did it would cost us $350 because he had to perform a “diagnostic.” Now I don’t know what a “diagnostic” is but apparently they can be performed in under 15 minutes with no visible sign of any work being done. So I told him that was way out of line and offered to pay for his service call but that was it. So he called Randy and told him he had performed a “diagnostic” and now I want him to quit the job. So he puts me on the phone with Randy and I told him the cost was to high and I wanted to hire another company. So Randy tells me that’s fine but he will still have to charge me the $350. It was a bizarre situation as I now have this guy who looks pretty tightly wound standing there telling me he won’t leave without a $350 check for doing nothing and Randy telling me he won’t go down on his price. So then Randy offers me a payment plan which I unfortunately agreed to. The electrician was done with the whole project in 2 hours which equates to $375 dollars/hour. So based on the situation and the simplicity of the job, I again asked Randy to reconsider his price and come down a little. Randy told me no, you signed the paperwork. He said the only way he’d come down on his price was if I agreed to give him a positive review online, otherwise he was sending me to collections. That’s apparently how he gets his positive reviews. Here’s what he wrote to me: "If you will give us a good review somewhere online and pay in full within a week, I will reduce the bill by $100-.I will not be responding to any more emails, company policy requires that if you don’t pay we send it to collections. I hope you choose to send us a check!"That is the true Randy speaking there. He also tried to justify the high cost because his electricians wear shoe protectors, are drug tested and he offers the “up front” pricing and a warranty. So I asked Randy to see the pricing list his electrician quoted the prices from but he will not provide it. I asked Randy what a “diagnostic” is, why it was needed and how long it generally takes but he will not tell me. The only thing I saw the guy do was stick a little light thing in an outlet, it turned red and that was it. Thats apparently what cost me $299 dollars. I also asked Randy to provide proof that his employees are drug tested since he uses that as a selling point. He told me Id have to take him to court if I wanted proof of that. So if youre going to use Randys make sure you know youre going to be spending a lot more for services that really dont materialize into anything but fluff. Also make sure he sends you the price list BEFORE his electrician shows up because once you sign that paperwork youre done. Every other electric company Ive talked to offers the same type of warranty that Randy offers so dont let him tell you his is unique. Oh and his electrician also told me that they are a high end company and theyre not cheap charlies. If that had been posted on his website I certainly would not have c...
