I messaged back and forth with Alejandro Magallanes over a two day period about a 2010 Ford Focus with 169,000 miles. He never identified himself as someone working for an Auto Sales business. It wasn’t until we pulled in that I realized this was a business and not a private seller.

Through messages he stated there was “nothing wrong with it” and “I’m honestly trying to give someone else a good deal.” When we got there, Alejandro wasn’t there but some other gentleman was. He was polite and got us the keys to the car. When I looked at it from the outside I noticed there was rust all along the bottom under the doors, one back wheel was leaning in so far that I was truly worried about driving it, and the back seats were stained very badly. I asked the gentleman about the tire and if it was safe to drive on and he said they had it checked out already and that it was safe and just needed an alignment.

When I started the car the ABS light was on. The check engine light was on. The traction control off indicator was lit and the message center said low tire pressure. I pushed the traction control button to turn it back on and it would not work. I decided to take it for a drive anyway and the car pulled to the left and the steering wheel shimmied all the while. When braking I noticed that the brakes surged and I’m not sure if that had to do with the ABS or not, but it was very clear just in seeing the car for five minutes that there is plenty wrong with it.

I indicated that I was looking for a safe and reliable first car for a young lady and yet none of these problems were mentioned. Alejandro showed up just as I was leaving and when he asked what I thought, I told him all the problems. His response was that a tire pressure indicator isn’t a big deal. I agree with him and told him that, but it still should have been mentioned if you’re going to say there is nothing wrong with the car, and in fact there is more wrong with the car then just a pressure sensor.
