Southern Iowa Economic Development Association, also known as SIEDA, is one of the 18 community action agencies serving the more than 90 counties in Iowa. Founded in 1965 as a nonprofit corporation, the agency works to identify the needs of the low-income population. It administers and designs several social welfare programs that are funded by federal and state grants, local funds, donations, client fees and private resources. Southern Iowa Economic Development Association offers family and child development and housing assistance programs. The agency conducts substance abuse evaluations and provides outpatient treatment and individual and group counseling services. It also offers energy assistance, crisis advocacy and budget counseling services. Southern Iowa Economic Development Association is governed by a board of directors that includes elected officials and representatives elected by the low-income individuals and members of the private sector.
