WORST DAY EVER!!!!
My family of four planned our trip to Ouray in January with the pinnacle of the trip being a 4 wheel drive tour of the Alpine Loop. I contracted San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours to take us on a 4 wheel tour of The Alpine Loop in the scenic San Juan mountains. It is a very well know trail and many companies will gladly take you.

We showed up at 8:15am like requested to drive the Alpine Loop which is a full day trip. All was well until the owner Greg showed up with two guys and two bikes - he told the driver they needed to go to Lake City CO.

It seemed odd that two guys in bicycle shorts and spandex shirts with bikes were on our four wheeling day trip.

We start driving and about 2 hours later as we were driving on a gravel road that anyone can drive on we asked the driver when we would get to the Alpine Loop - he said we were going to Lake City. I asked how long would it take to get to Lake City and the driver said a few hours. I realized that we were not going to the Alpine Loop but Lake City. I said it was unacceptable - I paid for a day on the Alpine Loop. The driver told me after we drop the 2 bikers off that he would make it up to us.

We got to Lake City 5 hours later. We had to endure 1.5 hours of driving on the highway. Do you have any idea how terrible it is to sit in the back of a pickup doing 60 mph on a 90 degree day?

We dropped the two bikers off. It was now after 2pm and the owner gave us an ultimatum either get over it or drive 3.5 hours in the back of a pickup on the highway back and get a refund.

9.5 hours later and over 5 hours of driving on the highway in the back of a pickup on a bench seat with no seat belts in 90 degree temperatures we arrived back at San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours.

We never even came close to the Alpine Loop, we never drove on a road that my Honda minivan couldn’t go on, we wasted a full day of vacation and a beligerint owner insulted my wife.

Don’t do it!
