In November 2015 my wife and I made an appointment with Dr. Janetta C. Proverbs for a consultation to discuss the possibility of her being our Doctor once we got pregnant. We paid a $40 co-pay. Later when it was billed to insurance the consulatation was marked as a maternity code exam. It went into a separate insurance that pays at 70/30 instead a consultation which is paid at 100%. We received a bill stating we owed $128 not including the $40 co-pay for the office visit. We called insurance company to see why it wasn’t cover at 100% and they told us it was billed as a maternity service. We were advised to call the Dr and they could change the code and it would be paid in full. So we called the billing department at Dr. Proverbs to let him know. He said he would look into it and get back to us. We never heard back so we followed up in a couple weeks and it went to his voicemail. We continued to call over a period of 5 months (still receiving bill reminders during this time) and call over 10 times and left multiple voicemails with the billing department. We never heard back.

We decided to discuss this with Dr. Proverbs in person since phone calls were not getting us anywhere. My wife called this AM to ask about coming in to speak with Dr. Proverbs and the receptionist said we could come by today between 9am and 4pm to speak with the doctor directly. We went in around 1:45PM and we were told we would need to wait while she met with her patients who had appointments at that time.

They lied to us when they said we could speak with Mary Kay the Nurse Practitioner. They also told us before the cops arrived that if we wanted to talk to the Doctor my wife who is still a patient there needed to make an appointment. When she said she would like to make an appointment to talk to someone they informed her that once a patient was submitted to collections they were no long a patient at her practice and could not make an appointment to see the doctor. We left without resolution.
