The Oxnard Fire Department, with a staff of more than 85 uniformed members, provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the residents of Oxnard, Calif. Along with fire protection, the Oxnard Fire Department also provides first response to emergency medical calls, vehicle accidents and hazardous materials emergencies. Another important function of the fire department is assistance during natural disasters, such as floods, wildfires and earthquakes. In 2004, the department responded to more than 11,000 calls, the majority of them for medical aid. The Insurance Services Office has rated the Oxnard Fire Department as a Class 2. This rating evaluates not only the fire department, but also the city's water system and the fire department's communications. Oxnard is located in Ventura County in Southern California and has a population of more than 200,000 residents.
